Lewis Design takes home Lantern and Award of Merit for “The Louisiana Mermaid”
On September 22, 2016, public relations professionals from the Southern Public Relations Federation (SPRF) came together for their annual Lantern awards banquet honoring the best campaigns and materials in the past year. The organization consists of members from a four state area; Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
More than 130 awards were given in areas from long and short term public relations campaing sto collateral materials to crisis communications. Venessa Lewis, of Lewis Graphic Design was the recipient of the prestigious Lanern Award, the top prize in an given category. The Lantern was awarded for her long term marketing program for The Louisiana Mermaid. Lewis also took home an Award of Merit in the category of Collateral-Websites for The Louisiana Mermaid website. Judges comments ranged from “Such a creative, cool project, you turned a passion intoa shared passion”; “What excellent creativity and organizzation” ; “Absolutely impressive”; “Truly and inspiration.”
This year’s conference was held at the Marriott Grand Resort in Point Clear, Alabama.

Venessa Lewis awarded Communicator of the Year
Manship School graduate and adjunct professor Venessa Lewis has made a name for herself as a national award-winning graphic designer, but after gaining a new hobby – and a tail – many have come to know Lewis by another name: The Louisiana Mermaid.
In honor of her efforts in communications and as a public figure, the Public Relations Association of Louisiana has selected Lewis as Communicator of the Year.
“To be nominated and selected for one of PRAL’s highest honors is truly humbling and something I never expected, as I’m usually more of a ‘behind-the-scenes’ person,” Lewis said. “And I certainly wouldn’t have guessed I’d win the award for successfully pulling off a campaign to become the state mermaid!”

Venessa Lewis of Lewis Graphic Design had the honor of speaking at the National College Media Convention held this past weekend in New Orleans, LA. The Fall National College Media Convention is presented by Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association. More than 2,300 student journalists and advisers are expected to attended the 360+ educational sessions, keynotes, workshops, critiques, trade show and awards ceremonies.
Lewis presented the session “Elements of Great Ad Design,” in which she discussed great ad design and considerations for balancing customer input and successful design principles. She also provided critique for student portfolios after the session.

The Public Relations Association of Louisiana honored four communications professionals at its annual banquet held yesterday, January 22, 2013. Honorees are selected based on a nomination process and then voted on by an awards committee.
This year’s awards recipients include the following: Bob Mann, Communicator of the Year; Sadie Wilks, APR, First Circle; Mary Beth Chevalier, APR, Practitioner of the Year; and Venessa Lewis, APR, Member of the Year.
PRAL also conducted the installation of the 2013 PRAL board of directors at the annual event.
